Dark, often greenish, skies, large hail, and a loud roar similar to a freight train.
Tornado Watch
Weather conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop. Remain alert for possible severe weather.
Tornado Warning
A tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar. This is the time to move to a place of safety.
- Move to the lowest possible level where you will be safest from flying debris, such as in a basement. If there is not a basement, seek shelter in a small interior room, such as a closet or bathroom, in the middle of the building.
- Stay away from windows and outside walls.
- Avoid large open rooms such as auditoriums or gyms.
- If you are outside or in your vehicle, go immediately to the basement of a nearby sturdy building. If you can’t find shelter, lie flat in a low spot using your arms and hands to protect your head and neck.
Upon receiving a tornado warning, warning sirens on campus will be activated. Campus police will make announcements over their vehicle’s PA system. The warning sirens are tested the first tuesday of every month, except during inclement weather.
