Police Services

Sexual Assault Services
Sexual Assault Services was established to create awareness, coordinate and centralize services, and educate the university community. Its goal is to empower members of the MSU community, to create attitudes which foster rape-free environments, and to assist individuals who have been victimized to begin their healing as a survivor. If you need assistance, Sexual Assault Services understands that individuals need help and assistance in a confidential and comfortable setting. Sensitive issues such as sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, and dating violence can be discussed freely and safely in our office or at another convenient, safe location. Assistance and referrals for survivors of sexual assault and their friends, partners, and families are available. We can also help victims of assault obtain campus and community services, thus minimizing the number of the offices the survivor may need to contact.

Sexual Assault Awareness Week
An annual event held at MSU each fall semester, Sexual Assault Awareness Week promotes education and prevention in areas such as acquaintance rape, dating violence, and gender issues. The week’s events include public displays, video presentations, seminars, discussion forums, and a keynote address by a prominent national speaker. The activities are designed to raise awareness, develop an understanding of sexual assault as defined by MSU policy and the law, provide network and informational resources, and encourage communication among the university community. The goal of Sexual Assault Awareness Week is for women to take responsibility and stop sexual assault and dating violence.

Operation I.D.
Operation Identification is a program formulated to assist interested individuals in permanently marking their valuable property with an identifying number. Electrical engravers may be borrowed from the office of the police department in the Stone Building. Additionally, officers periodically volunteer this service free-of-charge throughout residence halls during programs.

Community Crime Prevention - 325-2121
Campus community policing is a philosophy based on the recognition that nothing can outperform dedicated people working together to make their campuses better and safer places in which to live, work, and study. The formation of partnerships among students, faculty, staff, and the police department is a key principle in community policing. Recognizing that law enforcement alone cannot solve the varied problems facing our communities today, seeking assistance from the community is essential to making headway against the problems we face today.

To assist you with this partnership three police substations are located on campus at #34C Aiken Village (Phn. 325-3939), Hathorn Hall (Phn.325-9510), and Hurst Hall (Phn.325-4139).
Additionally, officers are available 24/7 at 325-2121.
