Sergeant Rich, raised in Starkville, Mississippi, is a Starkville High School graduate of 1982. She attended Mississippi State University where she received a Bachelors Degree in Sociology and a Master's Degree in Instructional Technology. Sergeant Rich received her police training at the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy in 1994 and began employment as a police officer and detective with the Starkville Police Department. Prior to joining the Starkville Police Department in 1993, she was a firefighter with the Starkville Fire Department and an Emergency Medical Technician at the Oktibbeha County Hospital. Sergeant Rich has been with MSU Police since August 2000. She was promoted to Sergeant and currently serves as assistant patrol supervisor. She is a member of the department's Special Assignments Unit (SAU). Sergeant Rich is also a Field Training Officer (F.T.O.), certified bike officer, state certified law enforcement instructor, Rape Aggression Defense instructor and First Aid/CPR instructor. Throughout Sergeant Rich’s tenure with the university police department, she has received a life-saving award as well as numerous commendations.
