The Mississippi State University Police Department, a nationally accredited law enforcement agency, recognizes that recruitment of highly professional personnel is key to operate effectively. Currently, the department employs 34 sworn law enforcement officers and 27 non-sworn support personnel on the main campus with 4 more officers on the MSU Meridian campus. Minimum Qualifications for Police Officer Include:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be 21 years of age
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must successfully pass a physical fitness assessment (CLICK HERE to see Physical Fitness Requirements)
- Must successfully pass a written assessment
- Must successfully pass a background investigation
- Must successfully complete training from a State Law Enforcement Academy
- Must successfully complete the Field Training Officer Program
Entry Level Police Officer Annual Salary as of 2024: $45,300
Minimum Qualifications for Dispatcher Include:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must successfully pass written assessment
- Must successfully complete a certified Telecommunications Operator course within one (1) year of employment
- Must be able to deal with stressful situations
- Must successfully pass a background investigation
